American River Charter School (ARCS) is a school option of the  Black Oak Mine Unified School District offering two educational choices for students in Transitional Kindergarten (TK) - 12th Grade.


ARCS Site-Based School

ARCS site-based teachers emphasize learning by doing, with particular focus on character growth (life skills), teamwork, reflection, literacy, and the arts. Teachers connect high quality academic learning to adventure, service and character development through a variety of student experiences including interdisciplinary and project-based learning.

ARCS Supervising Teachers (STs) provide support to parents who choose to home school their children.   Students enrolled in our home school option benefit from a wide-variety of educational opportunities including vendor classes, participation in Black Oak Mine USD sports progams (basketball, baseball, etc.) and dances as well as concurrent enrollment in class offerings at GSHS as well as Sierra Community College and Folsom Lake College.  Services and resources are provided to students through a dedicated budget of instructional funds allocated to enrolled students.
